Workshops & Teaching
My enjoyment of teaching grew out of a past life onboarding corporate teams, leading workshops and training clients. It felt natural to combine this with my passion for art and belief that everyone is inherently creative.
During my artist residency in Thailand, I taught rural children aged 6-12 years old; some with complex needs. Although the lessons covered a variety of media, the children’s deep obsession for colouring-in meant I was often enlisted to hand-draw colouring sheets on the fly!
With adults, my primary offering is an Introduction to Drawing, stemming from the idea that, behind drawing, is the trainable skill of observation which can further other creative practices.
Introduction to Drawing
-
A one-month introductory course which focuses on observation, shading, confidence, and process over outcome.
The course can also be reworked into a day-long course.
-
By the end, participants should:
Feel more confident starting drawings
Observe shape and light through a new lens
Be less afraid of making “bad” drawings
Have a small body of work that shows clear progress
Have tools to continue drawing independently
-
Led by a self-taught guide, who understands that outcomes can be achieved through a variety of individual approaches and techniques.
-
The course discourages negative self-talk and, instead, encourages participants to try without judgement. This fosters an open and safe environment which values process over outcome.
-
The course is designed to introduce you to a longer term process and way of seeing the world. You will be introduced to tools and tips to help you continue your practice long after participating in the course.
