Emily Brady is a self-taught visual artist
based in Brighton, UK

I am a self-taught visual artist working in drawing and painting. Through portraiture and still life, I use close observation to convey atmosphere and emotion.

I am particularly drawn to subjects with strong contrasts of light and shadow. My compositions are often tightly cropped, removing context and bringing the viewer closer to the subject. This intimacy, combined with strong tonal values, builds an intensity that reflects that of our inner worlds and relationships.

Although I work across different subjects and media, the true subject of my work is softness. Guided by a sensitive lens on the world, this quality is also embodied in the work itself through gently layered shading and softly blended paint.
